Welcome Message
Hi, my name is Anna-Kathryn (AK)! I am a Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern currently completing my graduate training at Northern Arizona University. My background in athletic coaching and performance development has shaped how I view growth, resilience, and the connection between mindset and success. Through my experiences as a softball and chess coach, I have seen how confidence, emotional regulation, and the ability to manage pressure can influence not only performance but also everyday life.
I strive to create a supportive, collaborative, and individualized space where clients feel comfortable being themselves. My work focuses on supporting athletes, performers, and adults navigating anxiety, performance-related stress, life transitions, self-worth, and personal growth.
Beyond my work as a counselor, I enjoy traveling, spending time outdoors, playing guitar, and continuing to learn about psychology and human performance. I look forward to getting to know you and creating a space where you feel heard, supported, and empowered to make changes that feel right for you.

Anna-Kathryn Walston, who goes by AK, is a Clinical Mental Health Counseling intern completing her graduate training at Northern Arizona University. She brings a distinctive background in athletic coaching and performance development to her counseling work, along with a clear focus on the intersection of mental health and human performance. Anna-Kathryn works under the clinical supervision of Leslie Sherlin, PhD, LPC-S.
Anna-Kathryn’s path into counseling grew directly out of her experience as a coach. Through her work as a softball and chess coach, she saw firsthand how confidence, emotional regulation, and the ability to manage pressure shape not only athletic and competitive performance but also the way people navigate everyday life. That insight shaped her decision to integrate clinical mental health counseling with sport and performance psychology, and it continues to inform how she views growth, resilience, and the connection between mindset and success.
Her clinical interests center on supporting athletes, performers, and adults navigating anxiety, performance-related stress, life transitions, self-worth, and personal growth. She is committed to building her expertise in this space through coursework, practicum experience, and independent study in sport psychology, and she intends to pursue Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) certification as part of her long-term goal of working with athletes and performers. Her approach is supportive, collaborative, and individualized, with an emphasis on creating a space where clients feel comfortable being fully themselves.
Anna-Kathryn earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of North Georgia and previously attended Florida State University. She is now completing her Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Northern Arizona University. Outside of her counseling work, she enjoys traveling, spending time outdoors, playing guitar, and continuing to learn about psychology and human performance. She looks forward to getting to know you and creating a space where you feel heard, supported, and empowered to make changes that feel right for you.
